Materials of late Bronze Age from the island Samovicya
Materials of late Bronze Age from the island Samovicya.

For the last few years the Cherkassy archeological inspection board had made a big collection of interesting archeological material near the island Samovicya. There was a Bronze Age settlement on the hill near the submerged village Samovicya. Archeological excavations were held during the period of low water level. The materilal collected belongs to the late Bronze  Age: ceramics, stoneware, flint ware and bronze ware. According to the cultures ceramics may be divided into 3 groups: ceramics of Bondarukhyn, Bilogrudivs’k and Bilozirs’ka cultures. All these groups are synchronous and probably create one system. The biggest number of ceramics makes ceramics of Bondarukhyn culture. It is usually thin walled, not enough burned out. It has admixture of sand and fire clay. The surface is wavy. Usually it has pricked out ornament made with a stick. The brims have oblique incision. As an ornament they used also in prints and pearls. (pic. 1, 1-4) This ceramics has all the signs of Malobudkiskyi type.
Bilogrudivs’k ceramic has fragments of tulip form pot with ornamented cylinder. (рic. 1, 7) This ceramic has not only admixture of sand but also powdered quartz. The surface is smooth. A rack imprint we meet mostly in thin walls ceramics.
The third group of ceramics belongs to Bilozirs’ka culture. This ceramics is convex. Usually it has pricked out ornamented surface. It is well burned.  It has admixture of sand and fire clay. A ornamented brazier is an example of Bilozirs’ka culture. (рiс. 1, 9)

Probably, a fragment of ceramics herringbone ornamented (рiс. 1, 5) belongs also to Bilozirs’ka culture, as well as a part of a pot ornamented with oblique cuts (рiс. 1, 6). But these parts have an admixture and a surface working up of Bilogrudivs’k culture.
Out of this territory comes a Stone Age instrument – a mattock. (рiс. 2, 1)
It has a shape of water drop and is made of granite. A round working surface on the one side is well polished. Here also found two flint scrapers and a brown flint part of a reaping hook. (рiс. 2, 2) The surface of the blade of reaping hook is well polished because of its usage.
The settlement near the village Samovicya gave a great number of the Bronze Age working tools and decorations. Working tools: 2 stub-awls have a rhomb form (рiс. 3, 1-3); a small chisel (рiс. 3, 4); a two blade knife that has a form of a leaf.
Decorations: a thin earring (рiс. 3, 6); a hairpin (рiс. 3, 7); a part of bracelet (рiс. 3, 8); a part of twine round bracelet (рiс. 3, 9).
The archeological research still continiues. It gives very interesting material in research of the late Bronze Age of the region.
